The GNH Movement project is a follow-up to the 3rd International Conference on Gross National Happiness (GNH3) held in Nongkhai and Bangkok, Thailand, November 2007. Both the GNH3 conference and the GNH Movement project were realized by Suan Nguen Mee Ma social enterprise under the aegis of the Sathirakoses Nagapradipa Foundation. During the project we worked together with a diversity of partners.
The 18 months’ project consisted of
a series of 14 workshops/forum-meetings/public lectures/dialogues in a variety of formats;
a collection of academic papers (6 in Thai language and 7 in English);
international exchanges and training;
as well as a professional process to guide and digest the planning and implementation.
The project also provided opportunities for Thai persons to participate in related international activities (in Thailand and abroad) and to network with persons delegated from organizations with common interests.
Much more activities than planned were realized, both because a real flow started driving the process, and because additional funding was received later during the project cycle (“NPI Project”).
Involvement of local resource persons and participants (ultimately a network of around 300 active participants) was initiated with increased special attention for the distinct roles governments, the business sector and civil society are expected to play in a possible development scenario towards transformation.
Transformation implies fundamental change of the present ‘world architecture’; of social structures at local levels; as well as a re-examination of ones “inner culture”.
